RE: Charitable Donations and Campus Solicitations
DATE: July 1, 2006
There are two authorized campuswide solicitations for charitable donations each year. One has an external focus and the other an internal focus. The United Way campaign provides an opportunity for employees to give to a single agency and support a number of qualified organizations serving some of the persons of greatest need in the community. The Campus Campaign provides an opportunity for employees to give back to the university and support departmental, college, or other university programs of their choosing. For these two programs employees may contribute through payroll deductions.
On occasion organizations on campus such as the Student Government Association and the Staff Senate have initiated ad hoc calls for donations for storm victims, for students or employees who have experienced family tragedies, and other similar situations.
The university may request individuals in the academic, administrative, and student service units to provide information about a fund-raising campaign to their co-workers and to encourage participation.
Charitable giving by employees is voluntary. There are no penalties to the person or the person’s unit for not giving to the United Way, to the Campus Campaign, to ad hoc appeals, or to any UALR Foundation-related program. Employee contributions should be returned to the Office of Development. Persons who wish to give on an anonymous basis may do so.
