Research Interests

My research examines how species interactions, community processes, and anthropogenic disturbance shape local species richness in terrestrial and small aquatic systems. My approach is field-based and focuses on the behavioral ecology of arthropods and trophic ecology of detritus-based systems. Current projects address: 1) behavioral ecology of tropical arboreal ants and, more generally, selection pressures associated with life in arboreal settings; 2) community ecology of leaf litter and phytotelm systems; and 3) ecology of disease vectors, especially mosquitoes. Additional details regarding ongoing research projects are available at: http://www.canopyants.com
