RESEARCH INTERESTS

1) Catalysis:

We would like to develop metal complexes (Fe, Co, Mn, Ti and Zr, Sm, Sn etc) of small macrocyclic ligands. These metal complexes will be predominantly used under homogenous conditions for the following purposes. The homogenous catalysts will also be attached to heterogeneous support (Polymer, silica, carbon nanotubes).

  • Small molecule activation (CO, O2, N2, CO2, H2O2) for useful synthetic chemistry which also includes green oxidation chemistry.
  • Asymmetric synthesis (Epoxidation, Nitrene transfer reaction, C-C bond formations etc)
  • Polymer synthesis (Polylactides and polycarbonates)
  • Use of scCO2 (Supercritical carbon dioxide) as green solvent medium for catalysis such as biodiesel production, trnasesterification reaction, polymer synthesis and use of CO2 to develop industrially important chemicals
  • Sensor and storage device

2) Anti Cancer drug Synthesis:

In this project we will synthesize/modify anticancer drugs attached to novel targeting molecules. The targeting molecule is chosen from a bio-originated peptide). The resulting molecules will be used to target and deliver anti cancer drugs for killing several cancer cells (ovarian, pancreatic, breast etc). Several dendritic molecules, polymers, or carbon nanotubes will be used to deliver the drugs for high efficacy. Besides these, new platinum anticancer drug synthesis, synthesis of imaging agents some other partsrt we are interested. In all these application use of carbon nanotubes will be heavily focused.

3)Chemistry related to Oil-Field:

We will modify or develop natural (Guar) or synthetic water soluble polymers for developing viscoelastic gels. The modified polymers will be used for hydraulic fracturing of oil producing rocks. Besides polymers we will also develop surfactant based viscoelastic fluids for the same purpose.
