Guidelines for Research Paper Contest
Arkansas Undergraduate Student Sociology and Anthropology Research Symposium
The AKD International Sociology Honor Society and Delta of Arkansas Chapter will honor undergraduate student research paper awards at the 25th Arkansas Undergraduate Student Sociology and Anthropology Research Symposium in the Spring 2003. The purpose of the contest is to encourage research. The methodology can be quantitative or qualitative. The contest will award those papers that demonstrate innovative and original thinking. The paper will be reviewed by the Symposium Committee members and presented at the 25th Arkansas Undergraduate Student Sociology and Anthropology Research Symposium.
Eligibility: The contest is open to all undergraduate students currently enrolled in a sociology or anthropology program at the universities and colleges in Arkansas. The paper must be written by student(s) and presented at the 2003 Symposium. The paper can be credit related or written for publication.
Manuscript: SIX hard copies of the paper should be submitted to: Dr. M.D. Buffalo, Department of Sociology, Anthropology, and Gerontology, Stabler Hall 401, University of Arkansas at Little Rock, 2801 S. University, Little Rock, AR 72204.
The manuscript should be typed and doubled-spaced on one-side of paper. The manuscript should contain the following:
- A front page with title of the article, author name, social security number, academic major/minor, department/college, university, student status, mailing address, and e-mail address.
- An abstract of no more than 150 words.
- Text with footnotes if there are any. Tables and figures must be typed in separate pages with appropriate location reference in the text. All citations and quotations must be listed in the references.
- To ensure anonymity, keep identifying materials such as author name and school out of the manuscript.
The paper should not exceed 20 pages (not including front page, abstract, references, tables, and figures).
Cover letter: A cover letter should be submitted with the manuscript. It should address the purpose and significance of the research.
Letter from faculty: A letter from a faculty member is required. The letter should be printed and use department letter head, and signed by the faculty member who attests that the paper is the original work of the student(s).
Deadline: Manuscript must be received by March 10, 2003.
