Sculpture

Coordinator: Michael Warrick

Email: mrwarrick@ualr.edu

The sculpture emphasis encourages diversity in its approach to ideas and techniques. The facility has one of the best foundries in the state using ceramic shell, investment, and bonded sand methods. Complimentary to the foundry are experiences in torch welding, glass casting using investment and green sand methods and rubber, plaster and plastic moldmaking. Other techniques are metal fabrication using MIG and electric arc, cast and handmade paper, cast and formed cement, armature fabrication, sculptural terra cotta clay and basic woodworking.

The sculpture facility has an indoor space with 1,500 square feet and 14’ ceilings. The facility is setup with 40 large lockable storage spaces, 8 large work tables, 10 portable work stations. All woodworking equipment is set-up on a gated dust collection system. The wax working and mold working area has a 18″ square swing vent hood and 6′ long hood vent.

The outdoor space has 1,400 square feet, has 10′ brick walls and is covered w/ a metal roof. The facility is set-up with 2′ high expanded metal at the top of the walls with natural draft hooded ventilation for all kilns plus an attic fan for constant air movement in the general area.
