As Director of Recruitment for Diversity for the only medical center in Arkansas, Ms. Flowers is committed to recruiting and retaining underrepresented minority students as well as those from other diverse backgrounds to the six academic institutions at UAMS, which educate and train students for careers in health care, public health and scientific research.
Formally educated and experienced in political science, professional technical writing, and public service; Ms. Flowers served as Executive Director of the Arkansas Legislative Black Caucus where her work included policy research, writing and educational film production. Her notable experience includes service as an intern with the 1992 Clinton Presidential Campaign to committee staff for the Arkansas Bureau of Legislative Research and more recently graduate work for Civics in South Africa and the Lawyers’ Committee for Civil Rights in Washington, DC.
In addition to her work at UAMS, she currently serves on the Arkansas Minority Health Commission, the Women’s Foundation of Arkansas, and the Pine Bluff Historic Commission. Vivian Flowers is a proven leader and public servant, dedicated to good government, community service and public education.
