The Department of Counseling, Adult and Rehabilitation Education (CARE) provides a quality education to a heterogeneous student body at the undergraduate and graduate levels. The goal is to prepare students with the special knowledge and skills for professional work in education and human service fields, and to enhance students’ abilities to be successful in their chosen fields of study.

CARE offers four graduate degrees and two undergraduate degrees.

The graduate degrees are:

Master of Education in School Counseling
Master of Education in Adult Education

Master of Arts in Counseling: Rehabilitation Counseling (an online degree program)
Master of Arts in Rehabilitation for the Blind, which has two emphasis areas:
Orientation and Mobility
Rehabilitation Teaching
The undergraduate degrees are:

Bachelor of Arts in Interpretation: ASL/English
Associate of Arts in Interpretation: ASL/English
CARE offers two academic minors:

Sign Language Studies [insert link] for students who are not majors in the Interpreter Education Program
Educational Interpreting for students who are majors in the Interpreter Education Program
*Nine credit hours of American Sign Language or demonstration of the equivalent proficiency will meet the second language requirement at UALR.

The Center for Developmental Skills (CDS) [insert link] offers a Reading Program/Laboratory and a Math Laboratory which provide instruction to UALR students and the community through courses and on an individual, self-paced basis:

The CDS also provides services to students through two TRIO programs:

The Student Support Services Program is a federally funded grant serving eligible students with focus on:
Academic Development
Student Retention
Graduation
The McNair Scholars Program is a federally funded grant serving eligible students from UALR and Philander Smith College with the following emphasis:
Preparation for a graduate degree (focus on Ph.D.)
Research under the guidance of a professor/mentor
Presentation of research at conferences/publication of research
